We believe creativity is the foundation of lifelong learning.
For over 50 years, Seymour Centre has proudly supported arts education for young people. By partnering with creative producers, companies and schools as a non-profit within the University of Sydney, we aim to bring the magic of live performance into the heart of education.
Our 2027 Arts Education Program is a vibrant celebration of imagination, curiosity, and learning through the arts. Designed for students from Early Stage 1 to Stage 6 Preliminary and HSC, the program features curriculum-aligned performances and interactive workshops, carefully crafted to inspire creativity and support meaningful learning.
From full-length Shakespeare plays, to interactive music education, to classics brought to life, our shows are bold and immersive. Our programs help students contextualise themes and bring new perspectives and ideas into the classroom.
Now in its second year, our low ICSEA pricing continues across selected programs, helping make high-quality arts education more accessible to more schools. Plus, we provide opportunities to add more to your excursion to Seymour Centre from our university partners, including campus tours and programs at the Chau Chak Wing Museum!

This year we have a variety of workshops and performances on offer for primary school students.
First off we have, Will and Ed Make Words Do Good Stuff: A Poetic Adventure for Primary Students, presented in partnership with Poetry In Action. Funny, fast and unexpectedly moving, this production tackles the question every classroom is now asking: what is left for us to make when a machine can make it faster? Through classic and contemporary poems performed at full tilt, students discover how poets build meaning line by line, and why real creativity cannot be outsourced.
Next, we have The World of Will, a workshop that is the perfect introduction to Shakespeare for primary school students. Designed to spark imagination, build confidence, and encourage collaboration, each session blends presentation with hands-on, on-stage workshop activities.
Then, we have The Magic Garden, a musical production from ARIA-nominated musicians, The Vegetable Plot, featuring fully orchestrated songs including symphonic favourites by the likes of Strauss and Tchaikovsky. Accompanied by bespoke educational resources that will transport the music back into the classroom, this is concert an unmissable opportunity to plant seeds of creative inspiration in students in Years K–4.
Finally, we have Drama Unlocked: Workshops For Stages 2 and 3. Led by expert Shopfront Workshop Facilitators, primary schools can choose from two workshop experiences: Making, Performing and Appreciating Drama or Stories Alive! Literacy Through Drama to best align to individual teaching needs.
This year we have a variety of symposiums, workshops and performances on offer for secondary school students.
Firstly, we have The Survivor’s Guide to HSC Group Performance , scheudled during OnSTAGE week at Seymour. Delivered by the experts at Shopfront Arts Co-op, this practical workshop introduces Year 11 and 12 students to the foundations of theatre-making, embedding collaborative and devised practices they can draw on throughout their HSC Group Performance.
Also during OnSTAGE, we have Single Asian Female: In Conversation with Michelle Law. Offering a unique insight to Michelle’s creative process, this in-conversation event is perfect for Year 11–12 Drama students studying the text in preparation for the HSC.
Next, we have Will and Ed Make Words Do Good Stuff: A Poetic Odyssey for Secondary Students, by Poetry In Action. Through classic and contemporary poems performed on stage at full tilt, students discover how poets build meaning line by line, and why real creativity cannot be outsourced to AI. Every performance is followed by a live Q&A with the actors and is accompanied with a free teacher's resource pack aligned to ACARA and NESA English outcomes.
Then, we have Sport for Jove's Performance Symposia Series, with in-depth sessions unpacking key texts with an unmissable fusion of live theatre and exam-ready analysis. Don't miss the chance to dive deep into Othello, Julius Caesar + The Prince, The Tempest, The Crucible, King Lear and Henry IV (Part 1).
Next, we have an all new production of Macbeth, from Sport for Jove. Students will experience a dynamic, condensed production of the play, followed by a Q&A with the cast. Macbeth is Shakespeare’s most atmospheric story and, as such, there is no more important play for students to see live – visceral in its language, searing tensions, blood on its hands, voices in the dark, prophecies, dreams and the terrors of the imagination, with a profound love story at its centre.
Finally in Term 2, we are thrilled to welcome Sport for Jove back to the stage with Hamlet + Dickinson, a brand new production that explores the emotional centre of Hamlet and Ophelia’s journeys while exploring the theatrical dialogue between the poetry of Emily Dickinson. Designed specifically for students studying the new NSW HSC module, this production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet foregrounds the central concerns of both prescribed texts: mortality, identity, grief, imagination, language and the elusive search for meaning.
We are thrilled to announce a very special in-conversation event presented by Sport for Jove and Shepherd's Purse Theatre with In Conversation with James Shapiro.
Internationally acclaimed Shakespeare scholar James Shapiro (1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare, The Year of Lear: Shakespeare in 1606, and Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare?) joins Damien Ryan on stage for a captivating evening of conversation exploring the life, works and extraordinary afterlife of the world's greatest playwright.
Whether you're a lifelong Shakespeare enthusiast, an educator, a student or simply curious about the mind behind the masterpieces, this promises to be an unforgettable evening celebrating, interrogating, x-raying the playwright who never stops surprising us.
