2027 Season Overview
Welcome to our 2027 Seymour Season
For many years, performing arts venues have been places we visit for a show. We arrive just before the lights go down, take our seats and leave when the curtain falls. But what if a venue could be so much more? As I introduce my first season as Artistic Director, I’ve been thinking about what Seymour can become—not simply a place to see extraordinary performances, but somewhere that becomes part of people’s lives. In a world where we’re more digitally connected than ever, there’s something increasingly valuable about coming together in person. To share a story, discover an idea, meet someone new or simply enjoy being part of something. That’s the Seymour we’re reimagining. A place where creativity spills beyond the stage, where artists and audiences connect, and where communities have space to gather, participate and make Seymour their own. A cultural living room for our community, drawing on Sydney’s creative energy and the extraordinary possibilities of being part of the University of Sydney.
In 2027, our award-winning independent theatre season celebrates the power of theatre to expand our worlds, bringing together thought-provoking writing from Australia, Croatia, Russia and the UK. We’re also proud to present the world premiere of Offset by acclaimed playwright Anchuli Felicia King, in a new production by Seymour. There’s plenty to get involved in, too. Explore movement and creativity through Every Wild Idea, a live dance development experience, or discover the delicious intersection of food and storytelling in Eat Your Words, a literary journey inspired by food. Audience favourites Cabaret, Cocktails & Karaoke, celebrating Sydney’s Asian artists and communities, and Seymour Sounds, our free live music series, return for another year. And in an exciting first, we’ll join forces with Opera Australia for Harbour Voices, a large scale community singing event that will fill Seymour with song. Across the season, you’ll also see new energy flowing through our foyers, bars and public spaces as we create more opportunities to gather, connect and enjoy the building in new ways.
So come early. Treat yourself to a French champagne or cold brew coffee and a tasty snack. Explore a corner of our venue you haven’t discovered before. Spend time with friends, meet new people or simply enjoy the atmosphere and do your own thing. We want Seymour to be your third space, a place to spend time, not just see a show. I’m incredibly proud of the artists and experiences you’ll discover here in 2027. And there’s plenty more to come. Most of all, we can’t wait to welcome you into our shared living room.
