COCKROACH | 6-8 September

Cockroach

An amoral revenge tale for the #MeToo generation “They deprive me of food, I survive. They sever my limbs. I don’t die. I’ve outlived the dinosaurs. I will outlive them. I’m Cockroach. I go where darkness thrives… And yeah, I don’t get asked on a lot of second dates.”

When C awakes from a nightmare, she finds herself transformed into a monstrous vermin. For too long she’s been told there’s something wrong with her. For so long, she’s yearned to behave badly. Tonight’s her night of reckoning!

Join C on a bloodcurdling bar crawl, as this avenging exoskeletal anti-heroine rises from the ashes of abuse to become the true definition of a pest. Featuring a live score mashed with vintage Casio, percussion and Fender Strat, Cockroach is furious, funny and hopeful. Part free verse poem, part dance theatre, part grunge cabaret, this twisted urban-noir adventure will have you belly laughing while squirming in your seat. Subverting Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Cockroach is about the silencing that follows abuse and the transformations that occur recovering from it.

Content warning: This is a show about female anger. It will answer the question of violence against women with more violence.

FRANKGHANISTAN | 6-8 September

Frankghanistan

Forget sex, sausages sell! The question is, “D’ya want dead horse with that?” Celebrate our sunburnt country as Noel, the local, takes you on a guided tour around his quintessential Australian suburb, Frankston.

One-woman powerhouse Nel Da Silva (& alter-ego Noel) is a first- generation, queer Blasian (black asian) Australian, storytelling through performance art, spoken word, documentary, cabaret and burlesque vignettes sharing defining moments coming of age.

No stone is left unturned as she boldly explores racism, violence, misogyny, sexual orientation, identity and what it means to call Australia home. “Frankston is a diamond in the rough. It was the perfect place for my Pakistani-born, Chinese/Anglo-Indian/ Portuguese parents to raise me as a typical Australian. In many ways I got the best of both worlds!”

Straight from sellout seasons at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Darwin Fringe Festival, Frankghanistan is “a show that will make you laugh, hold your hand to your mouth as well as make you think and feel. A powerful performance.” (Hugging Comedians)

With live music from the Franga Band, join Noel and a handful of locals as Nel chucks all of her art and soul on the barbie for a yarn that’ll take your curry breath away. Raw. Heart-warming. Edgy. Sausages.
