A CHINESE CHRISTMAS

1 - 12 Dec 2026

"An affecting and thoughtfully realised work that offers a resonant meditation on identity, inheritance, and belonging." - The Joy House

What if the only way to save Christmas… was to ask your ancestors for help?

It’s the night before Christmas and Heepa has a problem. Tomorrow, for the first time, he’s meant to host the annual Christmas party, but one very important guest is not coming.

His Grandmother(Paw Paw).

And she’s cross.

Determined to make things right before tomorrow arrives, Heepa does what any young person who knows they’ve messed up might do when they’re out of options — he travels to the Chinese underworld.

Armed with nothing but determination, a summoning book, and a lot of feelings he’s been avoiding, Heepa sets off on a wild journey to yōudū (幽都) — the mysterious realm of myth, spirits and ancient magic. But before the spirits will help him, Heepa must confront the past and the complicated, tender bond he shares with his Paw Paw.

Blending English and Chinese, myth and memory, A Chinese Christmas is funny, heartfelt and visually magical — a story about family, regret and growing up between cultures.

With live traditional music, supernatural adventure and a big beating heart, it’s a celebration of love and the invisible threads that connect generations.

A magical, moving and unexpectedly hilarious Christmas story about the things we wish we could say — and the lengths we’ll go to make things right.
