Originally presented in 2014 to rave reviews and sold-out audiences, Damien Ryan’s reprisal production of The Crucible offers audiences a rare, immersive and immensely detailed vision of this great play. Lit by fire, an exceptional cast turns the heat up in a story as relevant today as when Arthur Miller wrote it.
Miller’s parable of mass hysteria draws a savage parallel between the Salem witch-hunt of 1692–“one of the strangest and most awful chapters in human history”–and the McCarthyism that gripped America in the 1950s.
