Ephemera: a musical exploration of celestial landscapes such as pulsars, craters, planetary atmospheres, stars, sun and void. Merging the sound worlds of jazz and contemporary classical, and set to real space sounds and projections, it is a unique sonic experience. For this special performance, the ensemble have devised a series of pieces inspired by the lunar eclipse in March.
The ensemble is led by Keyna Wilkins (piano/flute/compositions) with Elsen Price (double bass/loop pedal) and Will Gilbert (trumpet) and includes freely improvised pieces. The performances include freely improvised pieces. NASA recordings of electromagnetic waves from planets and stars is the backdrop soundtrack and has been complied by astronomer Professor Paul Francis often with projections of space probe footage. Each member brings their own unique voice to the ensemble drawing from a multitude of musical backgrounds who combine to create a distinctive sound world that organically reacts to stellar concepts. Universe and Universality.
They have released 2 albums - Blackholes and Modulations and Orbits and Riffs to critical acclaim. Since forming in 2015 they have performed around Australia at venues and festival such as Sydney Women's International Jazz Festival, Extended Play Festival at City Recital Hall, MONA and many more.
