NSW Public Schools 2016 State Drama Festival

20 - 21 Oct

State Drama Festival

The NSW Public Schools 2016 State Drama Festival is a two day showcase of outstanding devised drama performances of public schools students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Pieces range from movement, comedy, drama, and feature the work from the Public Schools Ensemble program, State Drama Camp and schools across NSW. The festival involves more than 800 students from 100 different schools. This year we are thrilled to announce the return of Jay Laga’aia, our drama ambassador at The Arts Unit, as the host of the State Drama Festival.
This year we have schools and students from all over NSW at the State Drama Festival, from as far north as Richmond River High School, Glen Innes High School, Armidale, Farrer Agricultural College in Tamworth to the West at Forbes High School and primary schools from the Central West at Orange, down to the South at Braidwood Central School, Jindabyne Central School, Narooma High School and to the east with Balgowlah Heights Public School, Manly Vale and Newport Public Schools. Schools and students from all over the metropolitan area are also in the Festival and this year we have an incredible program of four different shows to enjoy.

Drama Workshops

This year The Arts Unit are also offering workshops for students coming to be part of the matinee audience. This is a great way to enhance the experience for school students attending the Festival as they get to participate in and observe exemplary drama works. Workshops are available in circus/physical theatre, acting, characterisation and improvisation either before or after each matinee at the Seymour Centre. For more information contact Debra.Griffiths@det.nsw.edu.au at The Arts Unit.

Reviews & Testimonials of the State Drama Festival:

“As a principal I am very proud to have had a student involved in this event. The skills that she has developed will hold her in good stead towards a career in drama, which is what she is seeking” Nicole Hunt, Principal, Nyngan High School.

“I watched the matinee today so I could see my daughter’s performance and I wanted to tell you how much I LOVED the pieces!!! It made me laugh so much- until the end that is. Then I cried. Well done to you and those excellent actors (gee they were amazing).” Paula Bonett, Parent.

“What a wonderful night our family had at the Seymour Centre last Friday! We attended as a family and everyone was engaged from the 10 year old to the 75 year old. The quality of all the items was fantastic and so many of the pieces were really thought provoking. The writing and acting were superb.” Nicole Hayward, Parent.
