Intimacy Director

Rhiannon Bryan is an up-and-coming Intimacy Director, consent advocate and artist.

They are a graduate of WAAPA’s 2022 Bachelor of Performing Arts (Performance Making)  and in 2023 completed their Honors research, Consent Strategies for Collaborators of

Contemporary Performance. This research detailed the role of the Intimacy Director in devised spaces and focused on upskilling actors in their systems of consent and boundary making.

Since graduating from WAAPA, they have intimacy directed, performed in, written and produced theatre works on a national scale, from naturalism to drag to puppetry.

Recent Intimacy Direction credits include Splashzone (GreyScale Theatre Co, The Blue Room Theatre) and currently Patrick Gunasekera’s The Little Mermaid, a queer and disabled ballet retelling of the fairy-tale.

In 2025, Rhiannon has undertaken study with the internationally renowned Intimacy Director’s and Coordinators (IDC), one of the first and only institutions to offer comprehensive education and qualification in this role. They also deliver inclusive sex and consent education through not-for-profit organization Consent Labs, to over 20000 high school and university students annually. In 2024, they wrote, performed in and toured their own work The State across Perth and Melbourne. The State was a drag-puppetry satire about Australian politics and was described as “mesmerizing and rebellious.” (I Tell You What I Think, Magazine) and “the best performances and production design I’ve seen in in independent theatre” (Magazine 6000).

Rhiannon is so excited to crack Sydney open with “Cowbois”, and continue creating queer, fun and safe spaces for artists to work in.
