Emelia Simcox

Designer

Emelia commenced her studies in theatre design at NIDA, followed by a traineeship in scenic art at Opera Australia. She holds a degree in Design and Applied Arts from UNSW. Her expertise in design and scenic art has led her to work in London and Ireland as well as Sydney. Emelia has managed the scenic art departments for both the Sydney Theatre Company and Opera Australia, and she is the founder of the design label SIMCOX.

Her design credits include: THE CHILDREN'S HOUR set (The Old Fitz); THE TURK IN ITALY Wallpaper & fabric design with Gabriela Tylesova (Opera Australia);  THE HAPPY PRINCE, THE LILLY LALLY SHOW, THE NIGHTINGALE AND THE ROSE, THE REMARKABLE ROCKET, CRABBED YOUTH AND AGE set & costumes (Bewley's Theatre, Dublin); SUMMER OF THE 17TH DOLL set (The New Theatre);  THE HOUSE OF BERNADA ALBA, JANE EYRE set & costumes (Santa Sabina College); YERMA set & costumes (Drama NSW/NIDA)

She worked as assistant costume designer and renderer to Michael Scott Mitchell on THE TEMPEST, LONG DAYS JOURNEY INTO NIGHT (Queensland Theatre Company) and A HARD GOD (Adelaide State Theatre); Assistant set & costume designer and renderer to Justin Kurzel on THE ONE DAY OF THE YEAR (Q Theatre). Assistant costume designer to Judith Hoddinott on SHOUT, THE LEGEND OF THE WILD ONE, FOOTLOOSE (GFO), DEATH OF A SALESMAN (Ensemble Theatre), MACBETH (ATYP).

Additional credits include Macbeth for The Second Millennium, textiles for Opera Australia and Jenny Kee, and installations for The Sydney Aquarium, Museum of Sydney, and David Jones Christmas Windows.
