The Metropolitan Orchestra presents

MET1 Classical Dreamtime

7 Mar 2020

Past Event

Mozart Symphony No. 40
Wilkins Celestial Emu (world premiere)
Prokofiev Classical Symphony

The Metropolitan Orchestra’s first performance for 2020 will also be TMO’s first concert ever at the Everest Theatre within the Seymour Centre.

Conducted by Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, Sarah-Grace Williams, this inaugural concert includes Mozart’s iconic classical work, his Symphony No. 40. This epic musical creation by the genius composer is as dramatic as any tale ever told, full of elegance and refinement, with opening bars that have mesmerised music listeners for centuries.

Following this dazzling start to TMO’s 2020 season, the orchestra proudly presents a world premiere performance written by pioneering Australian female composer, Keyna Wilkins, featuring leading Indigenous didjeridu player, Gumaroy Newman.

Wrapping up the program is Prokofiev’s modern classic. Concise and playful, Prokofiev wittily juxtaposes his own daring musical language with typical melodic turns and gestures from Mozart’s time.
